- Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) is rich in nutrients and may help to support immunity and provide antimicrobial activity.
Echinacea angustifolia is a herbal from the daisy family. A 2016 meta-analysis found that Echinacea extracts may reduce the risk of repeated respiratory infections.1 A 2015 monograph by the European Medicines Agency stated that oral consumption of "expressed juice" or dried expressed juice of Echinacea could prevent or reduce symptoms of a common cold at its onset. 2
Wormwood is used in traditional herbal medicine as a bitter tonic to stimulate appetite and as a vermifuge to help with the expulsion of intestinal parasites such as pinworms and roundworms.
Grapefruit seed extract (GSE), also known as citrus seed extract, is an extract derived from the seeds, pulp, and white membranes of grapefruit. GSE is rich in the phytochemicals: flavonoids, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), tocopherols, citric acid, limonoids, sterols and minerals.3-6 It’s also rich in essential oils and antioxidants and has a variety of potential health benefits which include:
- Antimicrobial Action – GSE contains potent compounds that have antimicrobial action of more than 60 types of bacteria and yeast.7,8 Test-tube studies have shown that it can even be as effective as some commonly prescribed topical antifungal and antibacterial medications, such as nystatin7. GSE works to kill bacteria by breaking down their outer membranes, causing them to burst open after just 15 minutes of exposure.9
- Antioxidant Support - The polyphenol naringin is found in very high concentrations in grapefruit seeds and is what gives grapefruit its bitter taste.11 Naringin has strong antioxidant abilities and has been found to protect tissues against radiation damage in animal studies.12
- Digestion Support – Animal studies have found GSE to be protective of the stomach from damage caused by alcohol and stress. 13 It may protect the stomach lining from ulcers and other lesions by increasing blood flow to the area and preventing free radical damage. 13 GSE has also found to have antimicrobial activity against pylori, which is associated with GERD, stomach inflammation and ulcers. 14
- Other – Early research suggests that GSE may help to reduce urinary tract infections, heart disease and improve blood sugar regulation.
While grapefruit seed extract appears to be beneficial in animals and test-tube studies, human research is not presently available.

Recommended Use

Caution
